The high cost of hearing aids is one of the reasons that many hard-of-hearing people forego treatment. An unfortunate reality of the American health
care system is the fact that many healthcare providers will not cover the cost and hearing aids
prices can be very expensive. For those forced to purchase their own hearing aids, online hearing aid retailers are often the best place to find the most
reasonable prices.
On average, hearing aids cost anywhere between $300 and $3,000. Obviously, that is a huge price range. In the end, pricing comes down to style, comfort, and quality.
The good news is that nearly anyone can afford a low-end hearing aid. The bad news is that those who need a high-end hearing aid will end up paying dearly for
it.
Generally speaking, the least expensive hearing aids
types are digital aids and behind-the ear hearing aids. Both styles are available for as low as $270 dollars but the high-end aids for both styles
run over $2,000. Digital hearing aids are a relatively new technology and are usually quite small. Behind-the-ear aids have been around for quite some time and are
generally quite visible in terms of the low end models.
Mid-range hearing aids like half shell and full shell aids start in the $400 dollar range and also go up above $200. Mini-canal
hearing aids are often the least expensive hearing aids; however they do not amplify much sound and are generally inferior to some other styles. In-the-canal hearing
aids are, by and large, the most expensive type of hearing aid. In-the-canal hearing aids can easily start at $700.
Hearing aids prices can be intimidating. However, it is clearly possible to find a hearing aid to fit almost any price range. The high-end models of most hearing aid
styles are roughly the same price so anyone able to spend top dollar would do well to make a selection based on style and comfort rather than price. With that being
said, more economical models for many styles generally start at a much lower price so those on a budget are not completely limited in their options.
